Political scientist Mutahi Ngunyi has on a post on Twitter said he is a “gun for hire.”
This was after he officially crossed over to President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza Alliance.
He wrote: ” FOR THE RECORD: I am a Gun for Hire. And then? What will you DO about it? I am a DOG of war. A Dog for HIRE. A mercenary for public good. I do not CARE about Credibility. It NEVER fed my children. What I know to be TRUE is this: Class WAR is LOADING. And Ruto is the DRIVER.”
Mr Ngunyi has been one of the fiercest critic of the current government and was an avid supporter of Uhuru Kenyatta. In a striking turn of events, Ngunyi not only praised Ruto’s leadership but also his individuality.
Kenyans online reacted to Ngunyi’s move with some lauding him and others castigating him.
One user Anuar Saddat lauded him for coming out to support President Ruto. He wrote :” Glad you have admitted that your positions are paid for. It take courage to do so. We see so many seniors lawyers on this platform, masquerading as independent minds but are on KK payroll. Hopefully, they too, will come out and speak the truth.”
Another user Alinur Mohamed_ wrote: ” Jamaa ya mukono @MutahiNgunyi ! He’s simply saying the enemy is poverty! Do what you have to do to feed yourself! Hao asking for credibility they will never even look at you twice when things go south but instead will spend the rest of their time laughing at you.”
Peter Oyaro said: “We understand you. You have complied well. Just like any other hungry Kenyan politician. Most of us regret losing you as a role model. May the will of God be done. “
