A family in the Mumbuni neighborhood of Kwanungu in Mwingi West is still in disbelief after one of their members was allegedly fatally shot by a police officer.
According to his family, two police officers entered the home of Alex Musili, a 26-year-old man, while he was asleep because they thought he had stolen Ksh10,000.
Yoana Sammy, Musili’s brother, claimed that the officers detained Sammy before using a block of wood to break into Musili’s home.
“They used a block of wood to break into his room. When he came out, he tried hitting his head with the wood but missed him, ” Sammy recalled.
After missing him, one of the officers who was armed stepped a few steps backwards and shot him.
“I immediately heard a gunshot and saw my brother lying down in a pool of blood,” he said
After the incident, Sammy said he was taken to Mumbuni Police station, where he was only asked his brother’s name before being released.
“On our way, they shot in the air to scare locals who had started gathering to find out what was going on,” he added.
Juliana Sammy, the mother of the deceased, said her son passed on while they were preparing to take him to hospital.
