The Nation Media Group is mourning the loss of two of its staffers, Elizabeth Merab and Frida Kananu Kinyua. The staff are also mourning the loss of an ex-colleague Tonny Hillary Omondi.
Merab worked as a health reporter for the Kenya’s largest media house and died of Sickle Cell anemia on July 15, 2023 at the Aga Khan in Nairobi.

Ms Kananu died on July 26, 2023 while undergoing treatment at The Nairobi Hospital. She worked in the IT department as the service desk supervisor at the Nation Media.

Tonny, a former photojournalist with the Nation Media Group, died after suffering an asthma attack on July 31.
Tony previously worked in the Kisumu bureau as a photographer where he worked till May 2023 then left to work as a communication’s office for Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa.

Merab’s requiem mass was held on Wednesday August 2, at the Nairobi Central Seventh Day Adventist Church in Nairobi. Family, friends and colleagues had gathered to pay their last tributes to the late Merab.
The media house’s Group CEO Stephen Gitagama described Merab as a social and hardworking person.
On the other hand, Pamella Sittoni, the Executive Editor and Managing Editor of the Daily Nation described late health journalist Elizabeth Merab as a cheerful person.
Both Kananu and Merab will be buried on Friday 4th August 2023. Tonny’s funeral date will be announced later.
