It was alleged that Brenda Kawira, 29, jumped 50 feet to her demise on February 21, 2023, at around 11:30 p.m. in Nairobi’s Kasarani estate. On March 12, 2023, 17 days later, she was laid to rest in Meru County.
Her boyfriend, who was the only eyewitness to the suicide allegation, admitted that they had argued on the way to the bedroom.
He claimed that Ms. Kawira stormed out of the rental apartment’s fourth-floor bedroom in a fit of rage, went to the balcony, and committed the suicide leap.
A bright woman whose life was tragically cut short by her passing was described as being full of life and hope; a fighter who had taken her fair share of beatings but persevered on.
Born on Jan 3, 1994, in a family of a Catholic priest, Peter Gitonga and Mama Catherine Gakii, Ms Kawira had three brothers and two sisters. She was the mother of the late Gianna.
Between 1997 and 2006, Ms. Kawira attended Nkubu Primary School. From 2007 to 2010, she attended St. Mary’s Igoji Secondary School.
The late Kawira earned a degree in medical biochemistry with a focus in genetics from the University of Nairobi in September 2021 and finished with first-class honors.
Before transferring to a Nairobi-based pharmaceutical firm, where she remained employed until her death, she had previously worked for a short time as a mathematics, biology, and chemistry teacher at Kaanwa and Marimanti girls’ secondary schools. In addition, she had been awarded a scholarship to study for a Master’s degree in Australia.
She was scheduled to depart the nation in June 2023. In her death, her relatives, friends and police officers who spoke to Nation.Africa last week expressed a strong need to relook into the chronology of events that ended the life of Ms Kawira.
