The announcement that media star Kamene Goro is making a radio comeback on NRG radio put her name at the top of the list of trending topics this week once more.
The news was announced shortly after her secret wedding to DJ Bonez. The widely disseminated rumours, which were supported by a poster release, indicated that Kamene would be returning to NRG radio and, this time, collaborating with renowned radio maestro Shaffie Weru and DJ Pierra Makena to broadcast a show called “NRG Transit” on Fridays.
However, it has been established that Kamene hasn’t been rehired by the radio station but she is part of a brand activation partnership between NRG radio and a new liquor Glendale Whiskey which is pushing to establish a name for itself in the Kenyan market.
“What I understand is that it’s just a brand activation for Glendale and not employment. MC Jessy, Betty Kyalo and DJ Malaika will host the same segment on Thursday,” a source privy to the gig revealed to Nairobi News.
Since Kamene’s departure from NRG in 2019 wasn’t amicable, the radio management filed a lawsuit against her for breach of contract.
To prevent Kamene and her co-host Andrew Kibe from going live on air at their new station Kiss FM, NRG Radio filed a lawsuit against them in the Employment and Labour Relations Court.
According to rumors, Kamene and the NRG radio leadership have had a history of animosity that hasn’t yet been resolved.
Therefore, the only thing that has brought the two parties together is business. MC Jessy was chosen as the official brand ambassador for the Scotch whiskey, which was introduced in Kenya roughly two months ago.
