A sombre mood has engulfed a village in West Pokot County after the body of a three-year child that had gone missing was found dumped at the parent’s home.
It is reported that the body was wrapped in a gunny bag and dumped outside the latrines.
It was dumped hours after efforts by residents to trace the child within the town and its environs bore no fruits.
“We saw a gunny bag that looked suspicious then we told men who were around to identify its contents where it was discovered that it was the body of the missing child,” said one of the residents.
According to the residents, the killers of the child did so after having differences between the mother who is a caretaker and the tenants who reside on the plot where the body was found.
“We highly suspect that whoever killed the child is not far, and he might have done so in retaliation since the mother has for long been at crossroads with the tenants at this place,” said a neighbour.
Residents also called on the police to heighten security patrols in the slum area to alleviate rising cases of insecurity, which has been blamed on joblessness and drug abuse.
