UNICEF Kenya and the Australian Commission has opted to use the art of a girl from Mathare in this year’s International Women’s Day set for tomorrow.
23 year old Tsarah Mumbi is a matatu Graffiti designer from Mathare slums is the only female matatu designer in Kenya.
Her design was inspired by stories of women and girls and women from Nairobi.
Her arts feature Nobel Laureate Wangari Mathai, famous Oscars winner Lupita Nyong’o among others.
Matatus represent urban youth culture and Sarah has made a mark for women in the male dominated field. UNICEF Kenya was honouring the spirit of Sarah’s story and also honouring girls and young women pressing for change during this year’s International Women’s Day.
