Fred Ikana, the Shinyalu Member of Parliament has pledged his full salary for the next five years to go towards charity.
Ikana who was speaking in Shinyalu on Tuesday said he would not touch even a cent of his pay for his personal use.
The lawmaker promised that every month, a portion of his salary would go to his foundation, the Ikana Maendeleo initiative, to better the lives of his constituents.
Ikana said: “I have committed my full salary towards charity work and the money will be channelled directly to Ikana Maendeleo Foundation for the betterment of the lives of poor and needy residents of Shinyalu Constituency.”
Since 2018, the foundation has played a crucial role, long before the MP was elected.
Through programs like education scholarships, school uniforms, housing for low-income families, health and sanitation, welfare support, and other programs to reduce poverty, among other philanthropic endeavors, it has been at the forefront of changing the lives of the locals.
