An administration officer fatally shot his girlfriend seven times, along with a female neighbor who attempted to stop him, in the Cleanshelf Supermarket area of the Lang’ata estate on Sunday night before turning the gun on himself.
When Corporal Mark Mulanda, a member of the Lang’ata police station, and two other coworkers arrived at their night duty station, he told them that he needed to go to his house inside the Mugumoini chief’s camp to get something.
He opened fire on his neighbor Fiona Chepkoech (37), who lived next to him when he first arrived at the camp, twice before turning the pistol on his girlfriend Rhoda Machuma Chepchumba inside his home (28). Before turning the pistol on himself and shooting himself in the neck, he shot her seven times.
Three dead bodies were discovered on the ground after the sound of gunshots alerted nearby residents and other officers who were also living at the camp. After that, they were transported to City and Chiromo morgues.
Mulanda’s AK-47 and its 20 rounds of ammo were found by police at the site.
The shocking murders have prompted detectives from Langa’ta police station to start an investigation to determine the cause.
