Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has resigned from the Jubilee Party but has not yet announced his future political move.
Sonko stated in a letter to the ruling party that his departure was prompted by the requirement for him to affiliate to his preferred party, as allowed for in the Constitution.
He praised the party’s leadership for supporting him as Governor and wished it well.
Sonko, who was summarily impeached in 2020, has since announced his intention to run for the Nairobi governor seat in the August elections.
