Mike Sonko, candidate for governor from the Mombasa Wiper party, will find out on Monday if he will be eligible to run for office in the general elections in August.
Sonko and Kisauni Member of Parliament Ali Mbogo , his running mate, have filed a suit to have the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission’s (IEBC) judgment from a media release dated May 17 and dated June 4 overturned.
The Wiper Party had also petitioned against the IEBC’s refusal to clear Sonko to run for the seat, claiming that the Returning Officer and consequently the IEBC were using unfair criteria in their decision.
Sonko was not cleared on the grounds that he had disregarded Article 75 of Kenya’s 2010 Constitution by failing to provide his original degree certificate and a certified duplicate of it.
