Police are working with a suspect to identify the armed criminals who were seen on surveillance footage breaking into a home in a gated neighborhood in Rongai and robbing a woman in the early hours of Sunday night.
The unidentified suspect, who is thought to be a member of the five-man group that accosted the woman as soon as she arrived at Manchester Close in Kanidisi, took her handbag, phone, and other belongings, and demanded her PINs, is suspected of being responsible.
Detectives detained the suspect on Monday after he withdrew Sh240,000 from an M-Pesa store at Mwiki in Kasarani, Nairobi. The M-Pesa shop employee who permitted the suspect to complete the transaction is also detained.
The latest incident is among string of robberies that have occurred in the neighborhood recently, the crime prompted a Monday visit from Interior CS Fred Matiang’i and Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai.
The two gave residents assurances of increased security and dispatched a special squad under the command of a senior superintendent of police to work with local officers to resolve the problem. Since then, as part of the ongoing investigations, crime scene investigators have dusted the house.
While people were invited to contribute information that might result in the arrest of the offenders, bars and spirit shops operating between Kandisi and Rimpa stage were prohibited because it is entirely a residential neighborhood.
