ODM Director of Communications Philip Etale has given an anecdote of a day last month when President Uhuru Kenyatta’s security roughed and pushed up the late former Gem Member of Parliament  Jakoyo Midiwo.

The incident happened on Sunday 30th May 2021, when President Kenyatta was commissioning the Yala-Bondo Water Supply Plant in Gem Constituency. This was a day before the Madaraka Day celebrations that were held in Kisumu.

Mr. Etale describes how Mr Midiwo arrived at the scene-he was in the presidential motorcade, he alighted from his car and started to walk towards the plant.

At the main gate, he encountered Uhuru’s men who stopped him from getting in.

“They pushed and shoved him as he pleaded with them, and in fact explaining to them that he is the immediate former MP for the constituency,” says Mr. Etale.

“The adamant security officers could hear nothing. Midiwo was manhandled as I watched.”

Etale confronted the security officers asking them if they for sure did not know Midiwo.

The man responded to Etale: “Ninesema haingii hapa”.

Etale asked them again, “This is Hon. Midiwo, you mean you don’t know him?”.

At this point, the man looked at Etale and pushed him (Midiwo) away as if saying “MUNANIUDHI”.

It was Embakasi East MP Hon. Babu Owino who saved the situation.

He found Hon. Midiwo looking so dejected and harassed and disturbed. In his usual character, Babu insisted that Hon. Midiwo enters first then he follows.

It was at this juncture that he was allowed in, perhaps on fear that Hon. Babu Owino would cause trouble and put them in shit.
