The body of Kenya’s third president Mwai Kibaki is being transported to his rural home in Nyeri for the burial ceremony.
At 7 a.m., a military-escorted cortege left the Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi.
Kibaki’s immediate family members are also part of the procession.
The pallbearers will be officers with the rank of cornel.
As part of his wishes before passing on, Kibaki requested that his body be transported by road.
The former president of Kenya, who served from 2002 to 2012, passed on April 22 2022.
He will be laid to rest with full military honors.
