The congregation of ACK St. Philips Korisai parish in the Malaba district of Teso-North sub-county, Busia County, was shaken when robbers stormed into the building and stole Sh150,000 worth of valuables.
The devices and food that were part of the Sunday harvest offertory were stolen, according to Rev. Gabriel Muzungu, after the attackers shattered the glass through which they entered the vicarage.
This incident marks the second attack on the church; the thugs are now concentrating their efforts on musical instruments used in places of worship and school laptops used in digital literacy classes.
“Early this morning I was informed that the vicarage had been broken into by an unknown people who made away with items including musical instruments, and foodstuffs estimated to be around 150,000,” said Rev. Muzungu.
As the thugs no longer have regard for God, parish curate Rev. Videlis Ekaiti said it is distressing that churches are becoming the major target.
The parish chairperson claimed that there are several instances of insecurity in the Teso North subcounty, with gadgets and school tablets being the primary targets.
“In the last one month’s four churches have been broken into and the trend of items stolen is the same. Over 10 schools have lost laptops and tablets in a similar narrative,”
They are now appealing to the police to improve on night patrols to mitigate the cases of insecurity in the area.
