Three suspects arrested over stripping a Kenyan pastor naked, robbing him

Detectives in Nairobi have apprehended three robbery suspects accused of abducting a pastor, stripping him naked, and robbing him of Ksh.55,000 near the Nyayo National Stadium on Thursday. The suspects, identified as Bernard Mbunga Mbusu, Alphonse Munyau, and Samuel Musembi Kamito, were arrested separately at their residences in Syokimau, Kitengela, and Katani areas, respectively.

A statement from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Saturday revealed that the incident occurred after the pastor had finished preparations for the upcoming Benny Hinn crusade scheduled to take place at Nyayo Stadium next week.

“The victim, a pastor at the Christ Church, was heading for dinner after a series of activities planning for the Benny Hinn crusade when three men accosted him and forced him into a waiting saloon car,” the DCI statement said.

During the incident, the suspects allegedly stripped the clergyman, took photos of him naked, and threatened to share the images on social media if he did not comply with their demands. The pastor, fearing humiliation, cooperated, and the suspects withdrew Ksh.55,000 from his M-Pesa account.

After the ordeal, the pastor reported the incident at Nyayo Police Station, prompting a swift response from a team of detectives from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau and Langata Police Station, who apprehended the suspects.

“Acting on the report, the DCI team analyzed forensic evidence, leading to the arrest of Bernard Mbunga Mbusu at Village Apartment House No. F2 in Syokimau,” the statement added.

Following their arrest, the detectives recovered three mobile phones, including an iPhone 13 containing the SIM card used to receive the stolen money, and a PDQ bank card swapping machine. The suspects are currently detained at Langata Police Station awaiting arraignment on Monday.
