Two boys accidentally detonate abandoned explosive while herding goats in Narok

In Kikurrukur hamlet in Majimoto sub-location, Narok County, two boys on Saturday suffered serious injuries after they unintentionally detonated an abandoned explosive while caring for their fathers’ goats.

The two boys, ages 12 and 6, were taken in severe condition with eye and leg injuries from the shrapnel explosions and transported to Narok County Referral Hospital.

Since the region was purportedly used as a military training field in the 1980s, local reports claim that there are further undetonated ordnances there.

Since then, locals have been instructed to report any metallic or military ordnance that seems suspicious to the authorities instead than approaching it.

Officers from the adjoining Kenya Air Force FOB in Narok West have received a warning to dispatch combing and detonation units to the area.

In anticipation of the arrival of bomb specialists, the area has been secured.
