Ms. Ilhan Omar, the U.S. congresswoman for Minnesota, is currently in Kenya.
Ms. Omar has previously met a number of officials from Kenya’s huge Northern region. She was once a refugee in Kenya after escaping her native Somalia.
The political figure was a resident of the Dadaab Refugee Camp in Garissa Country and was a Somali native.
On Tuesday, Omar attended supper with the governors of Northern Kenya.
Former Isiolo Deputy Governor Mr. Simba Guleid stated in a tweet that one among the topics covered at the meeting was the creation of a Congressional Caucus in Washington for the North Eastern area.
As part of advocacy for underserved regions of Northern Kenya I raised the issue of establishing a CONGRESSIONAL CAUCUS in Washington for this region in support and lobby for more development funds and support. Of course, there was prayer for her too. pic.twitter.com/mafZ74PZgP

Ms Omar has been pushing the USA to intervene and help the situation in Somalia.
In a letter dated December 15, 2022, Ms Omar urged the US Congress to come up with a strategy that can stabilize Somalia.
“We write to urge you to extend and redesignate Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Somalia for an 18 months’ period. The current TPS for Somalia is set to expire on March 17, 2023,” the letter reads in part.
