VIDEO: How journalist Rita Tinina’s body was discovered in her Kileleshwa home

Kenyan television journalist Rita Tinina, who had been working for NTV since October last year, was found dead in her house in Nairobi’s Kileleshwa area on Sunday afternoon. Her colleagues said she was set to be at work but she did not show up and could not be reached on the phone.

“A search into her whereabouts led to the discovery of her body in the house. The cause of death was not immediately clear,” her colleagues said.

NTV confirmed the news of Tinina’s demise through a social media update, saying her family had requested privacy.

“Celebrated NTV journalist Rita Tinina dies at her Nairobi home; family requests privacy during difficult moment,” the broadcaster wrote on X.

Kilimani OCPD Moss Ndhiwa says her body was found at her Kileleshwa home in Nairobi on Sunday, March 17.

The cause of death is yet to be established.

Tinina was a seasoned journalist who previously worked at Standard Group’s KTN.

She moved to Nation Media Group’s NTV as an editor in October 2023.

Her colleagues at NTV said she was scheduled to be on duty on Sunday but failed to show up, and she could not be reached on the phone.

“It is unusual that she is not at work and no one knows her whereabouts that is what prompted the search that led to the discovery,” one of her colleagues told Capital FM News, “unfortunately she was found dead in her house.”

Police said her house girl got concerned when she failed to wake up at 10am and called some of her friends.

It is Rita’s 7-year-old child who notified the house girl that her mother was unresponsive, according to police.

Her body was taken to Umash Funeral Home at 5pm.

Her employer, the Nation Media Group that owns NTV, had not released a statement on the death by the time of this publication.
