In connection with the ongoing Kenya Certificate of Secondary School (KCSE) exams, a police officer is being investigated after it was claimed that he was captured on camera reportedly stealing at a school in Bomet county.

The police officer, who was a member of a group of officers assigned to staff exam centers in the county, is accused of robbing Kimulot High School in the Konoin constituency’s female invigilators on Monday, December 5.

CCTV systems

CCTV cameras placed in the room where the teachers kept their baggage in accordance with the exam requirements captured the occurrence.

The armed cop can be seen entering the room and sitting adjacent to where the teachers had stored their personal belongings in the widely circulated video that was posted on social media.

He is seen ransacking the handbags before removing what looks like money. He stashes the items into his pockets and returns the handbags to their previous position before walking out.

The teachers later discovered that their money was missing and filed a complaint with the school management leading to the retrieval of the CCTV footage from the room.

Police say appropriate action will be taken against the officer if found culpable.

“We have dispatched officers from the county headquarters to the ground to verify the information that is now in the public domain. We are trying to verify whether or not the incident occurred in the school so that appropriate action can be taken,” a senior police officer at the Bomet County headquarters was quoted as saying by Nation.
