Two conductors were detained after they were spotted hanging precariously from a moving matatu, according to the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).
This comes after a social media video that went viral in which the two touts were spotted hanging on a matatu traveling down Nairobi’s Jogoo Road.
The safety authority announced via a tweet that the matatu’s driver and his two touts had also been taken into custody and would face charges.
NTSA said: “The driver and the two conductors have been arrested. They will be charged accordingly. We urge all road users to remain vigilant & speak out against such behavior.”
Kenyans expressed their dissatisfaction on social media, calling upon the traffic police and NTSA to crack down on such behavior on the road.
The authority has also said that Road Safety is a shared responsibility, and applauded the public for reporting the incident.
