Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has stated that he does not regret appointing the late Prof. George Magoha, as a cabinet secretary for education.
The retired president praised the late Cabinet Secretary as a leader who led by example and said he took the education sector personally in a speech on Tuesday after visiting Prof. Magoha’s family.
“This was a man who deserved the Education Cabinet Secretary position. He is a hero in the educational sector. He brought out several changes in the sector,” Mr Kenyatta said.
Mr Kenyatta also noted that Prof Magoha brought integrity to national examinations.
“This man was a man of his words. He talked less but established great things. He talked little but was full of execution,” Mr Kenyatta said, adding that Prof Magoha has left a huge gap in the education sector.
“He is the great mind behind the introduction of Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) education system. He did us well. All these were to benefit our children. He deserved that position, he even addressed the curriculum challenge we had. He did not do it to hate anyone, but in the interest of the children of Kenya,” the former head of state said.
Prof Magoha was also hailed for ensuring a 100 per cent transition of primary school learners to secondary school.
“He was seen regularly moving from house to house in the slums to ensure pupils who completed primary education joined secondary schools. He is not one who would sit in an office and fold his arm. He was in the field all the time,” Mr Kenyatta said.
“We owe so much to this man, he was a great leader. Full of wisdom and knowledge. He shall be forever remembered. Just as he stood with the people of Kenya, we shall also stand with his family.”
