A 34-year-old woman was given a 17-year prison sentence by an Eldoret judge, after being found guilty of murdering her two children to please her new lover.

According to reports, Flossy Cherono murdered Beryl Chepchumba, 7, and Ivy Chelagat, 11, with a machete.

She admitted to burying the pair’s corpses in a pit latrine when she appeared before Justice Reuben Nyakundi.

According to testimony given in court, the accused murdered the children on the evening of July 9, 2019, at their residence in Kaburwo, Nandi County.

The prosecution informed the jury that the incident was horrific and that the defendant merited a harsh punishment for taking the lives of two young girls.

“It is disturbing to believe that a mother would commit such a heinous crime against her own children who trusted her.

It is ironic that the person who was meant to protect, care for, and love the innocent children turned out to be the predator.

The confession of the mother, who told the court that she killed the innocent children to safeguard her marriage, disturbed Justice Nyakundi.

The children were strangled to death and then chopped into pieces with a machete, according to a postmortem report from Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital.
